The Resort Hotel is located in Masseria Donnaloia

where artefacts made of reddish-brown ceramic, attributable to the Metal Age, were found. The morphology of the Puglia area has, in fact, allowed very ancient settlements in natural caves. In the 2nd century AD, it was Trajan who wanted a faster, more comfortable and safer route than the Appian Way, to reach Puglia and therefore Brindisi, to go to the East, from Rome in 13/14 days, passing through a land with a climate always tempered by the sea. In Puglia, every approximately 10-15 km, there were post stations, which were used for changing horses, refreshment and accommodation for travellers. The road that reached Puglia approached the sea of ​​Barium (Bari), followed the entire coast and crossed the centers of Neapolis (Polignano) and Diria (Monopoli?) and reached Gnathia (Egnazia). Just 10 km from Egnazia, on a small hill overlooking the sea, a settlement has stratified over many centuries which, initially dug into the rock (lookout station?), has seen the superimposition of buildings of different styles in subsequent periods . The Resort Hotel Masseria Donnaloia was created in this historic rural settlement in Puglia.
